Okay. So the way they usually go, right, is you know, you you go either the team comes the team that you're playing comes to you or you go to them. Mm-hmm. And essentially, at least in when I was doing it, there were usually five matches, three singles, two doubles. And you know, the the first the first singles match was generally the best player on each team. Then the second singles were second best, third singles were that, and then you had like the first doubles team and then the second doubles team. And when I started, I was like Kind of riding the bench and then I became second doubles and then I became first doubles. I was never good enough for singles. I don't know if how that works for her, but I I I think roughly, yeah, yeah.

Okay. So usually I record on Thursdays. Right, right. Well previous Thursday, uh, she she had uh she had practice and it was just It was just a J V practice, squad two, they call it squad two. Uh just J J V. And uh I went to pick her up at the high school after practice and she told me the story. And uh Basically, what had happened was she was she was practicing and one of the coaches was like, Arabelle, let me see your racket. And she took Arabelle's racket and tried to use it and basically said, oh my god, Arabelle, your racket is horrible. Okay. It is way, it is way, way too heavy at the end. Like, and the coach is like, I've been playing tennis for like 20 years. I can't even use this racket. It's bad. It's real bad. So she had a her first match was on uh that next Friday. So she got in the car and she's a little distraught telling me this story. And uh I was like, well, you this is a problem money can solve. Right? Like, like I will gladly take you. Of course, the only place, there's like one place in Columbus that is like a tennis store. They close at five. This is well past five. And I was like, well, you know what, I can just take you to Dick's. They have tennis rackets. You can you can look at them. If you want to buy one, you can buy one. If not, that's fine. If you don't want to go, if you just want to wait. and figure this out later. It's absolutely fine. So she kind of contemplated stuff. We went home. Uh sh we had dinner. And she was like, yeah, go ahead and take me to Dicks, which is the point where I was like, I can't record, Drew.

I'm having a we're having I didn't say this, but we're having a tennis racket emergency. So we took her out to Dick's and we must have been there. I have to imagine everybody in the store was just absolutely annoyed with us. We we we we took we brought a tennis ball and we didn't hit the tennis bar very far but we did dump bounce the b the tennis balls off off some rackets Uh we must have tried every single racket that was that was in there. Heck, we even you we even used a little bit of uh chatty G to ask it to like like hey tell me about this racket is it good for beginners you know and stuff like that it was fun Uh so we ended up buying a racket. Uh I can't remember what it is, but that's not important. So she bought the racket and uh Yeah. And at that point it had started raining. So I took her to a nearby park that had some tennis courts in the rain and she tried some serves and and stuff. And obviously I didn't have another tennis racket, but I would bounce balls at her and and toss them over to her and and generally be a fool running around chasing balls. Uh and she's like, wow, I really do like this tenant racket a lot better. Uh and uh at that point Uh she felt good. We went home and then Friday was her first match and she won.

It's a brand that I do not recognize. But she's a lot happier with the new racket. And uh so we uh She had a match yesterday in which she lost, and I think she's actually actually playing her third match right now. So

It's funny because I remember when the first time I ever picked up a tennis racket were like my parents' tennis rackets. And they had two. They actually had old wooden rackets. Oh wow. They had like the longer handles and a smaller head. And they also had a metal racket. And I remember when I started playing, you know, they had lighter material rackets. They had it still had some metal rackets and they had some like I don't know if they I don't know if they were necessarily plastic, but they were maybe aluminum or of some kind. And then I remember what became hot when I was doing it is they started using graphite in rackets. So they became incredibly light. Like the first couple of tennis rackets I swung were were not they weren't heavy, but they were, you know, you could tell that you were swinging something. But now with the with the different materials and I can only imagine it's even better now. They're they're so incredibly light. And different the different strings matter and yep.

Every day's a calamity day for me, Paul. Yeah Oh, so what's up with you? Um, okay. How's that fiber? Okay, so the fiber is good. So I wanna tell you I wanna tell you a tale of woe. Okay. So, as you know, I'm deep in the ubiquity lifestyle. I do know that, yes, yes. And it's been it's been good. I have access points, I have switches, I have a router. Uh everything's good. Now, the one thing in my house that constantly gives me grief is I had a UFI doorbell. That was completely wireless. Okay. Um, I'm not even gonna link it because it's trash. The app is trash. Uh the app the app would show you notifications that were basically ads. Uh yeah. And like you could I'm sure you could subscribe, but really the doorbell only existed as a way to know when somebody was at my front door. And I have you know a network camera also on my porch. So I was I was sick of this thing. So a couple months ago it started acting up where it would just not connect to my Wi-Fi every once in a while. Uh oh. Yeah, and it it was like it was like two pieces. So the doorbell itself was like this plastic Well, there was like a plastic thing that like screwed into the wood on my front porch and then the doorbell would go into this thing and it had no wires in it at all. It was completely wireless, so it had like a rechargeable battery in it, which that right there is annoying I don't want to have to like go out there. And it had like a special latch that you needed, basically like a paper clip to like get it out of there, charge it, take it back out, pain in the ass. And then the the base unit is what talked to Wi-Fi. So that was the thing that would join Wi-Fi. That's what like the SD card was in. So if it was making recordings and whatnot, like that's what that was in. And ever since we moved the the family that lived here before us, like it was there. So like we had to like, you know, reset it, take it over, and it worked. It worked. you know, it was perfectly fine other than the charging thing for like two years. But then a couple months ago, like it would just like lose connection to Wi-Fi. I tried moving it, you know, closer to the access point, thinking like, okay, maybe it's my mesh network or something, but it it really didn't matter. So I was like, fuck it. I want to replace this. And, you know, I'm in the ubiquity lifestyle. So I went shopping and I bought this. Okay. So this is the G Four Doorbell Pro POE kit And as the name implies, it is it is a ubiquity doorbell. It is pretty fucking awesome, as you can imagine. Um so the the couple main the couple main features well there's there's a couple of cool really cool features about it, but one that really sealed the deal for me. Is first and foremost, it's power over Ethernet. So it's wired. So I had to call an electrician. They had to drill a big hole in my wall. They ran the cable all the way from like my doorbell to my cellar. I wasn't even going to try to do that. They actually did a really good job. They only had to cut one drywall hole. They were able to fish it through uh my downstairs by taking out some of my can lights and then putting them back. So I was really impressed with like what they were able to do. So they ran it. And I installed it. And it's it's great, it's got great resolution. It it's in the native Ubiquity system. So you know it has it's part of the Protect app. So if you've ever used Ubiquity before When you log into the console, there's different tabs. So it's a tab for network, and that's where you configure your ports and your Wi-Fi and all that other stuff. And then Protect is if you have cameras or door access or other stuff like this doorbell, like that's the tab that it lives in. And uh it has it has actually has two cameras in it. It has a camera that is like front facing and then it has a camera that calls the package camera. Where it is like a downward facing angle at like your step or like your porch. So if somebody sets something there, you can see if it's still there or not. And it's got like really, really good detection. It knows when there's a per. Like my other camera would just detect motion. It wouldn't, it wouldn't differentiate, right? This is like, oh, there's a person. Oh, there's a car. Oh, there's a dog. Oh, you know, it's raining. Whatever. You can set up all different types of alerts. The ecosystem like the settings are crazy good. And and you can have it show a little picture On the LC. A little screen. Yeah. Yeah. So and it's reactive, right? So you can have it show a picture all the time, but if it detects a delivery, it can like flash a message like please leave package on step or whatever. It's it's it's phenomenal. Uh but the number one killer feature is uh when somebody rings the doorbell, it makes a fart noise now

But in my house, it sounds like there's a wet fart somewhere in my house. So yeah, you you can you can upload you can upload your own sounds. Um So like what's what also is in the box is there's like a like a remote chime that's also power over Ethernet. And right now that's just in my back cellar. I I'm going to run the cable for that. I just don't know where I want that to ultimately live. So that's great, right? Like everything's good. It worked for one day. Oh no. It worked for one day. So because yeah, so because this is part of the protect system. It has to have like your protect app running on your Ubiquity gear has to have storage. Now, my dream machine special edition has one hard drive slot. So I plugged it in and I was able to adopt the device, but it kept giving me warnings like, hey, not possible to record. So it wasn't working. So I shut down my dream machine and I went to Micro Center and I bought a new hard drive and I put a hard drive in it. And I had previously had a hard drive in it, but it wasn't booting with the hard drive in it. And I had read online, it's like, yeah, if your hard drive's bad, like it might cause your dream machine to not boot or whatever. And once I took the hard drive out and rebooted it, it was fine. So I was like, okay, I'm just gonna go buy. a new hard drive. So like I researched like what does Ubiquity recommend for hard drives and they're like purple surveillance, Western Digital or Seagate or whatever. So I just you know went to Microspenter spent 70 bucks on like a a four gig purple rated hard drive. And I went home and I shut down the Ubiquity. I shut it down the right way. I went into the console, shut it down, unplugged it. you know, put took the old or that will hold or whole I took the the hard drive cage out, put the new hard drive in, put it in, booted it back up, and it wouldn't boot. And I'm like, okay, what's going on here? So I f I fussed with it for like 24 hours and I just could not get it to boot. It was to the point where I couldn't even factory reset my dream machine. Now, these things are not cheap. They're anywhere from $350 to $450. So I'm like, what the fuck is going on here? I read Reddit posts, I read support posts, I tried everything. I just could not get it to work. So I called Ubiquity and surprise, surprise, they give you a two-year warranty. I bought this thing two years and four months ago, so I was out of fuck. So I ended up having to replace it. But what I did replace it with is I replaced it with this. Still in the Ubiquity ecosystem, but I replaced it with the Dream Machine Pro Max. Pro Max. Now, this is the same thing, give or take, except it has two hard drive ports. Two. Okay. So you might be wondering, why wouldn't I just buy the same thing that I had? Well Pro Max. Well it's Pro Max, but it but it has two hard drive slots as opposed to one. Now, when I was in here poking around in this thing The latest version of the Ubiquiti software that runs on the router has a new feature. Now they call it a preview feature, but they now support third-party cameras. Oh, okay. So if your cameras have an RTSP feed, I think is the name of the protocol, which is essentially just like your camera serving HTTPS or whatever, or HTTP. It can now read from those cameras. So like my off-brand non-Ubiquity cameras can now be part of my Ubiquity Protect application. So I can have the doorbell and I can have my three exterior cameras on it. Now it's not perfect because they're not Ubiquity cameras, it's it doesn't support all the same features, right? Like it doesn't do detection and it doesn't do alerting, which is kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion of doing it. Now, what's interesting is oh and it also doesn't record sound from iCameras, which is kind of shitty. But long story short, you can you can actually SSH into the the Dream Machine Pro Max. And there's essentially a JSON file in there that lets you tamper with the different feeds that it picks up from your camera. So like my my exterior cameras right now actually provide two feeds. They provide a low quality feed and a high quality feed. But whatever I put in the default settings to have it like read from my cameras, it picks up the low quality one. And it and it and it and it won't pick up the audio channel. But if I were to get were to go in there and tamper with this JSON, which I have not done yet, so I don't know if it's gonna work, apparently I can tell it to use the audio feed and I can tell it to use the high quality feed. And if I can get it to do that much I might be able to consolidate completely in the Ubiquity Protect ecosystem versus the um Uh, what's it called? My stupid NAS that I can't remember the name of right now. Oh my god. Uh who makes my NAS? Synology. Yeah, the Synology security station solution, which works fine. Like I'm f you know, if if it's if it doesn't work, it's not the end of the world. But I would like to try to consolidate on on both on one thing. And this might be a way to get me to do that. And look, if they continue to improve the compatibility with third-party cameras, then that's going to be the the best solution, I think, for me. But yeah, uh that's that was kind of my big catastrophe. So like I didn't have internet for like 24 hours while I was trying to figure this out. So like I have you know I have a I have a new puppy, I've got like work stuff, I'm trying to do this, like Ugh. Yeah. But it's good. Yeah. I I really like my doorbell. I can make it have a picture of my dog. And like I said, you can upload all the different sounds and everything. It's pretty good. Yeah. The camera on that thing is so good. It's so good. And you can have like the you know the L the LED light up and everything, which I know you love. Now they do make a Wi-Fi version. It still has to get power though. So like if you had a regular doorbell, which my house didn't have by the way.

Yeah, and at our old house, when I bought the when I had my ring doorbell at the old house, I was able to wire it into that. My house is interesting. So I don't think my house has ever had a doorbell. And the reason I say that is when my When my house was built, it was built in 1989, I believe. 36 years old, right? So that would be 89. So when my house was built, and I'm looking at it right now because it has this system in it called valet. So it's like it it's like a whole home intercom. Oh, okay. So like for example, in our bedroom And in my office and in our laundry room, there are these boxes. And I'm pretty sure there was one on my front porch at some time. But there was there isn't one there now. And and they don't work. Right? They they they're not powered right now. Because upstairs in my kitchen, you can very clearly see an outline of a bigger like section where I think it used to be, where like the master control panel used to be. So I I don't know where exactly on my front porch those wires were. And I and that's why I decided to just go with this one. I went with this one mostly because, you know, power over Ethernet, it's easy. And it came with the chime in the box, which is also PoE, which is pretty nice. So yeah, that was my big thing. So that was kind of like an unexpected expense that I didn't really kind of anticipate. Right, right, right. So Alright, so let's talk about Apple stuff.

Liquid liquid glass. Now what do you think of it? I I I love it. I love it. It's great. I think it looks so cool. It's a little, I wish it was a little bit more on the Mac. On the Mac, it's very, very subtle. You'd almost have to do like side by side in some situations, like sidebars look a little different. And I also haven't used Mac OS them very much because mostly I'm just on that thing to do little things or or do some X code stuff. But uh an iOS, Swatch OS, iPad OS, it's it's gonna be pretty striking. They are really leaning into more transparency. In controls. So, like, for example, if you pull down control center, every little button is this frosted translucent glass. thing with an icon on it instead of whatever it was before. And you can see like the the the the colors of your icon shining through. Now some some beta early betas I started at beta 4. Now we're on beta 6 as of like a few days ago. The the early betas from screenshots, you mean it's it was rough. It was too transparent. And heck, even now You can still get it to look bad if you work at it. Like, so okay, a good example of that. So let's just say that I open up the app store. Uh and all of the buttons, all the buttons at the bottom are now in a tab bar and the active one is and what all of them are kind of translucent. So all the tabs at the bottom, like today, games, apps, arcade, that is semi-transparent. So what that means is as you scroll, uh if there is, let's see if I can get it to to do it. Yeah. So as you scroll, if it it's it wants to So but I I use I use light mode because I'm I'm a fancy boy.

So by default, the the glass is light and the selected icon is blue and the on other s unselected icons are black. If you scroll and you get over really dark content, the glass gets a little darker, the the icon changes from black to white, and the selected icon is like a lighter blue. And sometimes you can get it over top of something where like you just like it's too dark, you can't read anything. It's just real bad. But you scroll a little bit and then everything kind of pops into place because you're on a over you're over a different color. Uh I do think it looks really cool. I I understand why there's a lot of like developers who are just kind of grumpy and trying to get their apps redesigned to work with it. And I get that, I get that, I get that. But I think Most people are gonna look at this design and I think they are really going to like it.

I I the thing that I am worried about is I don't think a lot of third-party apps are going to embrace it. So it's gonna be like an Apple only thing, right? Because a lot of third party apps, like think like Spotify. They have a very strong brand. Their app looks the same no matter what you're doing it. They're not gonna have a drop of liquid glass in it. Google, they don't give a shit. They like their material design, which barf. Uh it's everything's gonna look like that. Maybe some indie developers will embrace it to try to differ differentiate themselves and And you know, and and you know, those are also like big Apple fans, so they want to be doing the latest and newest thing. So I think maybe, you know, your third-party independent apps like Overcast is going to have some liquid glass in it. Of course it is. Uh But I think over it all overall I think it looks really cool. Yes, you can get screenshots where it looks bad, yet you can you can force it. Those they're still tweaking it overall. There's still everyone it's beta six is actually running pretty good Every once in a while I see like an animation bug. Every once in a while. It's a I saw them a lot more on beta five. Beta six seems to be Pretty solid. It's also uh developer beta six is out and also public beta three came out today too. So if you don't if you want to get on the public beta, you can. It's the same version. Uh, you know, I everything I have every app I have tried to use have worked. So if anyone wants to jump on the beta train and be a big beta boy like me, uh It's a good time to jump on if you want to check it out. Watch OS isn't that different. It's just some of the buttons look more liquid glassy now. This is the first time I've ever ran a watch beta, so meh. iPad OS is very interesting. Okay. Because what they did is they said Fuck it. You want windows? You're getting windows. Okay. You want you you wanna you want to be able to resize everything and And have as many windows open on your iPad as you possibly can squeeze in there and you want to resize them all to be exactly right, just you just get those windows, you filthy little boy. You just get them Uh and it's it's a it it actually works really well. Uh they didn't get rid of like slide over and pop over, uh which I did use slide over some. But it's actually really cool. You know, uh you get a little like grabby handle in the bottom right hand corner of all your apps. You can you can grab it and you can just resize that window. It live resizes then If you open up another app and resize it, you can see them both on the same screen. They can they they can actually overlap each other. Who would have thought?

Now that they're on iPad windows, it's kind of cute because they're really, really, really small. And you tap it and then they get big. And then you can tap on the control again, which I think is a pretty clever way of doing it. And you can just put it right back into full screen. On the do on the occasions that I do uh travel, uh I do like having it so I don't have to worry about whatever the Wi-Fi is or like just if it's congested or or uh do I have a good signal in the seat that I picked? Uh because usually the my place is, you know, the the the cellular signal is usually pretty good there. Uh I l I do like having it. Uh I don't think I would ever give it up, but I don't know whether I I I hope they do cellular in their Macs. I love it. Yep. The appliances subreddit. Yeah, that's a good place to go. So look, long story short, I did buy one. It is not here yet. So I ended up going with the Bosch 800 series. That's what that's literally the one I was looking at. Now there now there are there are many different types of the 800 series. So you have to be very, very careful with the model number. People really like the there's one that that is labeled as ADA compliant. And apparently the reason that people like that one is that it essentially is manufactured up to the same standards of the ones that are produced in Germany. The reason I didn't go with that one though is that it's not the full, it's not full size. It'll like you could adjust the feet and you can make it fit in a standard 24-inch cavity or whatever. But I didn't end up going with that one. I went with a particular model number. It's just the Bosch 800 series 24 inch counter, you know, top control builded dishwasher. Again, there's a couple variations on whether or not you want a recessed handle or an external handle, if you want stain like a particular stainless steel, or if you want it to match like your cabinets or something. But this is the one I ended up going with. And and again, a couple a couple cool reasons. There's no there's no exposed heating element, which is again the the number one thing I really care about. It has three racks. The bottom rack is on wheels, but they are sort of like not rails. They're basically part of like the sh how do I explain it? They're basically just like part of the um the side as opposed to being a separate rail that they can like come out of, if that makes sense.

My dishwasher is like I kind of have like this island that like juts out into my kitchen, and like that's where my dishwasher is. And I remember when I had my countertops replaced, I think I told the story on the podcast. He hooked up one of the hoses, but apparently like there's an extension hose that he didn't hook up to my sink. So like water wound up in my basement. It was a whole thing. It was a complete accident. I didn't know it was there. But When the when the installer called me to schedule like it's going to be shipped to Lowe's, we'll pick it up, we'll bring it, we'll install it, they're like, you know, which bottle did you get? And I told them, and they're like, okay, well, how far is your dishwasher from the sink? Because I guess this happens a lot. So I had to like order the the special hose extension that goes to this dishwasher, but it was like sixteen bucks. It's not the end of the world, but just a cautionary tale that like when you're ordering this You know, if you do need le a different hose, like you I guess you have to buy a Bosch one. Like there are knockoffs on Amazon, but I'm like, nah

And then like, of course, they have like they have like ones that if you have like shaker style cabinets or something and you want it to look like your cabinets, like yeah. I mean I the one we have now is a Maytag. I will never again buy a Samsung or an LG anything appliance. So, you know, I looked at I looked at like Maytag. I looked at um Bosch, obviously, Whirlpool, you know, a lot of these are all kind of the same dishwasher, but I think Bosch is kind of, you know, up there Now that Mile brand, or however you say it, um there are apparently that brand has a cult, kind of like Speed Queen Washers You ever talk to somebody that's owned Speed Queen?

They're not there's not there's not any kind of like branding on the outside. All the controls are at the top. I like that so it just looks like a stainless steel like a a faceless stainless steel block it doesn't draw attention to itself. I I really liked these these and I wasn't sure which series I was get getting but Uh you buying the 800, it's I think is kind of pushing me in that direction. I'll have to run it past the uh the war department, but yeah.

And it's become increasingly harder to find parts for it to get in there to to to feel like it's like I think in between the last time I had bought them or like the first time and second time I bought them It it was like it was a different model number, but everyone's like, okay, it's the same size. It's it's fine. It'll absolutely work. Like, well will it? Because it's really not. They discontinued that model. And I'm just kinda I'm just kinda sick of it. Like I wish it would just break. Uh like like every time like I did have one of the things where it said like like uh hey hey I did like the error code basically mean like I didn't drain as quickly as I thought I was going to drain. And I'm like, I hope it's just not the filter. I hope it's actually dead. I just need to clean the filter. By the way, people, your diswasher has the filter, clean it out. Yep. Yep. 100%.
